Press Release: Senator Ratna Omidvar and MP Ali Ehsassi Launch the Inter-Parliamentary Canadian Friendship Group for a Free Iran

The Iranian regime continues to repress its people and has continued a brutal crackdown against the brave Iranians that have taken to the streets to fight for their freedom. They are not deterred, and Canadian parliamentarians need to support them.
This is why Senator Ratna Omidvar, Independent Senator for Ontario and Member of Parliament Ali Ehsassi, Willowdale, Ontario have launched the “Inter-Parliamentary Canadian Friendship Group for a Free Iran.” Through this group, parliamentarians will be able amplify the voices of Iranians, particularly women and girls, who are protesting for their human rights.
The inter-parliamentary group intends to amplify the voices of Iranians and Iranian Canadians by increasing the flow of information and analysis to parliamentarians about evolving developments in Iran that impact the democratic aspirations of Iranians. It will also connect members of the Iranian diaspora to parliamentarians and convene discussions with thought and civil society leaders. And the group will elevate ideas broadly shared by members of the Iranian-Canadian community to assist the Canadian Government in developing a more sophisticated understanding of Iran and may assist in compelling the Islamic Republic of Iran to adhere to internationally recognized human rights norms and principles.
